With the population of the United States seeing a shift towards higher numbers of “boomers” becoming senior citizens, comes more age-related concerns including risk-for-fall, post-fall rehab and many other needs for physical therapy.
So what does this mean for students seeking a career in physical therapy?
The job outlook is fantastic. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor(1), between 2012-2022 there will be job growth of 36% in the physical therapy field. Some other quick stats:
Number of jobs in 2012: (204,200)
Additional jobs available between now and 2022: (73,500)
2012 Median Pay: $38.39
Those are some pretty decent numbers!
